Scotland
Loch Hopping in the Inner Hebrides: Paddling in Wild Scotland in Style!
Trip Overview
- Moderate Kayaking, Easy Day Hikes
- 6 Nights Hotels/Bed & Breakfasts
- 2 Days to and from Your Home
Our friends in Glasgow told us about a great paddling secret in the waters off Scotland. We followed their call and put together a most singular adventure exploring this untamed and historic North Atlantic coastline.
This sea-kayak journey through the Sound of Arisaig is the perfect way to experience the amazing beauty of Scotland’s West Coast and Inner Hebrides. On a series of day paddles, we will explore this remarkable coastal landscape with its rich marine wildlife and birds. The vistas are inspiring - the white sandy beaches of Arisaig set against the backdrop of the dramatic but gracefully sculpted Small Isles of Rum & Eigg. These relatively sheltered waters are the perfect place to enjoy a sea-kayaking vacation, developing your skills under the close eye of our expert guides and experiencing some of the best sea-kayaking to be found anywhere in the world. The accommodations and meals are a highlight of the trip, as is the opportunity to meet some of the famously friendly local people.
Each day will be a new adventure, starting with your arrival in Glasgow and transfer to Arisaig, a small village in Inverness in the west of Scotland. Arisaig today is the center of a marine sanctuary, the gateway to the Road to the Isles, and claims to be the birthplace of the real life Long John Silver. The village is also famous for its appearance in the popular movie Local Hero.
Most days will be spent exploring for six to eight hours, paddling through the crystal clear waters of the Sound of Arisaig, home to a rich diversity of marine life, and hiking the secluded islands. We’ll make a special visit to Eilean Shona, the "Beautiful Island" and a ruined castle. Evenings will be spent comfortably ensconced in small, cozy hotels or traditional Scottish inns, where you can relax in comfort and style, and raise a thirst quenching pint of ale.
