Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Mt. Kilimanjaro - Up the Wild Side! Safari to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater

Trip Overview
  • Strenuous Hiking, Safari by Land Rover
  • 6 Nights Tented Camp, 7 Nights Mountain Camping
  • 1 Night Forest Lodge, 1 Dayroom at a Luxury Hotel
  • 2 Days to and from Your Home
Our adventure in Tanzania is full of "once in a lifetime" experiences as we journey from one magnificent wild treasure to the next.

To reach the slopes of Kilimanjaro, we will walk the wild and beautiful track across the Shira Plateau, home to a rich diversity of wildlife. Few travelers approach the mountain from this direction, so our camps and forest trails won't be crowded with people. This route provides a challenging 9-day hike and plenty of time for acclimatization. We start at 3,000 meters and climb through the Western Breach to reach 5,895 meters at the snowy peak, passing the Lava Tower and vast Arrow Glacier as we go. And Kilimanjaro’s famous summit glacier and incredible view will be ours first. Our summit camp is just 800 feet below Uhuru peak, so it will be a short morning’s walk to reach the top and enjoy the sweeping view.

Prepare yourself next for the beauty of Ngorongoro Crater, which must be seen to be believed. On the crater's 105-square-mile grassy floor lives Africa's largest permanent concentration of wildlife. During our time exploring this famous crater, we're likely to see elephant, zebra, wildebeest, and buffalo, and there's hardly a better place on earth for observing lions than on the crater floor. Black rhino have been repopulated into the area, you may spot one of these magnificent creatures.

And, at last, the great Serengeti! Tree lined rivers, majestic Kopje (rock outcroppings) and yellow grass plains stretch as far as the eye can see. Huge numbers of migratory animals roam the plains in all directions. Wildebeest number in the millions, zebra in the hundreds of thousands. On the edges prowl lions, leopards, hyenas and jackals, keeping watch for their unfortunate prey.

This is the one trip you will never forget.
