Tanzania: Kilimanjaro
Climb up the Wild Side to the Roof of the African Continent
Trip Overview
- Strenuous Hiking.
- Kili Climb: 4 Nights Lodge, 7 Nights Mountain Camping
Our adventure in Tanzania is full of scenic wonders as you journey towards a “once in a lifetime” experience to the summit of the Roof of Africa. Your trip begins with a day trip to the foothills of Mount Meru, Kilimanjaro’s younger sister. We do a half day hike here to begin to acclimatize our bodies the elevation we’ll experience it the days to come. We also set aside some time for you to review your gear with your guide. This important process helps you make sure that you have everything you’ll need to make your climb an enjoyable experience.
To reach the slopes of Kilimanjaro we make a gradual ascent through forest emerging to wide views of Kibo, the Western Breach and the wild and beautiful Shira Plateau. The Machame route is considered the most scenically beautiful on the mountain, circling almost half the mountain to provide a range of great views. Our summit camp is just 800 feet below Uhuru peak, so it will be a short morning’s walk to reach the top and enjoy the sweeping view.
While some companies climb this route in 6 days, we offer a challenging 8 day trek providing plenty of time for acclimatization – a safer climb with an excellent success rate. A full crew is ready to take care of your needs, we’ll sleep in mountain tents and our cooks provide us with tasty, high-energy meals. Porters carry all gear; you carry only your daypack.
If you would like to extend your time in Africa to experience the incredible wildlife of the Serengeti or visit the exotic island of Zanzibar, please contact our office, we can assist you with pre or post climb arrangements.
This is the one trip you will never forget!
