Ecuador: Galapagos Islands Kayaking
Galapagos Kayaking, Hiking and Sailing
Trip Overview
- Easy tropical sea kayaking, easy day hikes, snorkeling
- 3 nights hotels, 7 nights aboard catamaran
Picture yourself kayaking in turquoise waters in a remote volcanic archipelago 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. The ocean air is fresh, the sea clear. As you pull your paddle out of the water, a sea turtle rises for air right next to you. Or imagine gliding into a secluded bay and discovering a beach inhabited solely by a host of sea lions, lazing and barking, nonchalant to your presence. As you look closer, you notice hundreds of placid marine iguanas lazing on the black lava flanking the sand. This is Galapagos kayaking at its finest.
This is the wonder of Galapagos. A place little changed for centuries and still largely removed from development, these islands offer an encounter with a world that feels primeval in its natural splendor. Because wildlife here has never been hunted, animals are oblivious to our presence. We feel as though we have arrived in a mythic Eden, a magic wilderness all to ourselves as we kayak by day and sail between the islands at night.
We at Explorers’ Corner are convinced that this is the best way to see the Galapagos Islands. From a kayak, we are at eye level with swimming sea lions that pop their whiskered snouts out of the waves, and we can paddle close enough to shore to look a blue-footed booby right in the eye. We have experiences that no tour boat-based trip can match. And we are very fortunate to be able to provide this model of travel: thanks to our partners in the Galápagos who have again been able to secure kayaking permits for us, we are the only operator able to offer paddling trips in the islands.
Our groups must be small: only eight co-explorers will share this unique adventure. We’ve found the perfect small, sporty sailing vessel to take us to all the most special spots. Our catamaran, the Galapagos Vision, was built by Philippe Jeantot, three-time round-the world sailing champion. It has four cabins, comfortable lounge areas both inside and out, plus a friendly crew who will prepare a full board every day. There is even an inviting place on deck for sleeping under the stars!
Each day we explore a different island either by kayak or on foot. In the late afternoon, our catamaran will pick us up and deliver us to another captivating Galapagos habitat to explore. Then more Galapagos kayaking adventures! In addition to our time spent paddling, there are plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing on a variety of beaches.
