Bahamas: The Exuma Islands

Island Hopping by Kayak in the Caribbean

Trip Overview
  • Easy to Medium Sea Kayaking
  • 2 Night in Luxury Hotel
  • 6 Nights Camping

Far from the touristy busyness of Nassau or Freeport are the Bahamas’ beautiful and remote Exuma Islands. Millions of years ago huge deposits of shell and coral became compacted into one of the largest formations of limestone in the world.  As the sea level dropped, these huge carbonate landmasses were cut by ocean current and erosion into an archipelago of 2500 islands that have become one of the most exotic and sought after travel destinations of the world The Exumas, known as the "out islands", are 365 Cays (pronounced “keys”) that are largely uninhabited which preserve the pristine beauty of a tropical paradise. Our explorations here are governed by the ebb and flow of the tides, the rise and set of the sun and the steady paddle strokes that carry us from one island to another.

As we paddle from island to island we'll make camp on the beach, snorkel over colorful reefs and hike up to an overlook to watch the waves of the open ocean crash against sheer limestone walls. We'll get down inside a blowhole and let the pressure of the surging sea wash us clean. We’ll land our kayaks on a deserted island where only the giant iguanas will come out to meet us, see stingrays floating below us and cotton ball clouds drifting above us. The weather is mild and the water is warm, long stretches of open beaches beckon us to come and rest.

True to Explorers’ Corner's style, this trip is expeditionary in nature, we’ll carry all our own supplies and help the guides with the daily chores. This is a new destination for Explorers’ Corner but a classic experience for any who seek to know the beauty of paradise from the intimate seat of a kayak and the open door of your beachfront tent.
