3 b Robert Falcon Scott stepped onto the South Pole in January of 1912, thirty-two days after Roald Amundsen, who had arrived on December 15, 1911.


4 c Clavering saw "a small band of Inuits" north of Scoresbysund in 1823.  And after he showed them the use of white man’s firearms, they all were shocked and ran away – never to be seen again.
